For many blind and visually impaired people, the world can be a dark and isolating place. The Israel Guide Dog Centre offers a beacon of light and hope for blind and visually impaired Israelis.
The Centre serves as a positive model of social integration, and has dramatically changed the lives of thousands of Israelis over the past three decades. Since 1991, the Israel Guide Dog Centre has facilitated over 850 partnerships for blind and vision impaired people and IDF veterans.
Before the Israel Guide Dog Centre existed, the only way for blind Israelis to receive a guide dog was to travel abroad, be fluent in English, and receive government approval.
We are the only internationally recognised and accredited guide dog training centre in Israel, and a member of the International Guide Dog Federation of Guide Dog Schools and Assistance Dogs International.
In April 2018 we opened our new Puppy Development & Training Campus to meet the increasing demand for guide dogs across Israel.
With expanded training grounds, kennels, and whelping facilities, we have been able to significantly increase the number of guide dogs we are training.
This allows us to shorten our waiting list and increase the number of working partnerships in Israel. The need for guide dogs in Israel is great. The new campus allows us to respond more effectively.
- We breed, raise, and train guide dogs for Israel’s blind and visually impaired people, regardless of ethnic or religious background.
- We provide care, support, and supervision for guide dogs from birth and throughout their working lives, and into their well-earned retirement.
- And we promote public awareness of blindness and guide dog use around Israel through numerous social and sports activities with the support of hundreds of volunteers.
