Dogs that love to love…
At the Israel Guide Dog Centre, we know that not all dogs love to lead, some love to love. Although not suited to becoming Guide Dogs, these loving animals are trained to help transform the lives of people suffering from the devastating effects of PTSD.
Benzie is one such person.
Having managed to supress the memories of traumatic experiences from his days in IDF’s Elite Services for many years, he suddenly snapped.
His life then went into freefall as, in an uncontrollable rage, he threw his wife and children out of the house, broke all contact with friends and isolated himself in his bedroom for months. He even attempted suicide.
Finally seeking help, he was partnered with specially trained PTSD service dog Lugo – and it was love at first sight.
Thanks to Lugo, Benzie once again has the support of his wife and family as he learns how to reconnect with the world.
