DONATE NOWAt the Israel Guide Dog Centre, our main focus is providing guide dogs to help blind people lead independent lives. Our guide dogs are assertive, confident and enjoy leading the way.
However, some dogs prefer just to love rather than to lead. And these fabulous animals make amazing Emotional Support Dogs for families dealing with trauma.
Since the 7th October, demand for these life-changing dogs has grown exponentially as children struggle to overcome the trauma created by that fateful day and the subsequent war.
Yuval* is 8 years old and has autism. Her family lived in a Kibbutz near Gaza and were evacuated from their home.
The sudden move, compounded by over a year of war, alarms and rockets, caused Yuval to exhibit symptoms of severe behavioural and emotional regression.
Now, after being partnered with Ginny*, a beautiful labrador, Yuval feels safer and calmer.
Her parents are able to deal with other pressing issues, and the whole family is in a much better place to be able to cope with their new reality.
Omer, 11 years old, also has autism. His father has been on active reserve duty continually since October 2023. Omer had not spoken to anyone for many months.
Thankfully, Maxy, the family’s new Emotional Support Dog has made a
massive difference.
Omer is now speaking clearly again, particularly when the dog is present. He is feeling more grounded and secure, and was able to return to school and even play in the park with other children for the first time since his father’s absence.

The Israel Guide Dog Centre is the only internationally accredited school in the Middle East training dogs to transform the lives of people who are blind or visually impaired. But not only this, we also train dogs to bring light into the lives of IDF veterans suffering from life impairing PTSD and children with autism who struggle to communicate in a world full of confusion. We can only do this with your support as there is no charge to those in desperate need of these life-changing partnerships.
