When Ruth gave birth to her son she experienced a rollercoaster of emotions. The joy of a new baby boy but the fear and horror of what had also just occurred. Because Ruth went blind giving birth to her son!

Her family suffered from a hereditary condition know as ‘retinitis pigmentosa’ and it visited her at the worst possible moment.

But Ruth is a fighter and refused to let this stop her being the best mother that she could to her baby boy. She already had a degree and career in Human Resources as well as being a prolific runner and cyclist.

The obvious choice was to get a guide dog, which she promptly did! Now there is no stopping her and Roxi.

Ruth says, “I am no longer alone, I can rely on myself and Roxi and do whatever we want to.”

I can rely on myself – and Roxi – to do what I want.
